"We do not escape into philosophy, psychology, art-we go there to restore our shattered selves into whole ones again." With finals taken, grades decided, and summer started; I would like to share a final project that really pushed me in a new direction regarding my thesis and as an artist as a whole.
Below is the documentation from my final for Alternative Process. The project's title was "Objects". With such a direct title, we had the artistic freedom to print on whatever we wanted (household items, clothing, etc.) as long as our images and concept went together. I chose to take old notes I had saved from an unfinished visual journal and scan them in, printing at least 50 cyanotype prints where I would then create distressed paper flowers. These are all people who have had an effect on me as I flourish either negatively or positively or if the relationship has grown or diminished. I chose to present these flowers in a bathroom stall. This was a tight spot where the audience would feel the overwhelming feeling of all these relationships' weight while also trying to depict the flowers that were smaller or weren't printed as clear as others. Some flowers' placement could only be thoroughly viewed if the viewer sat down and observed on the toilet. The use of an intimate space plays along with the idea that these notes are ordinary things made to either be seen as trash/discarded objects by taking them out the environment of the bathroom stall and society's perspective and view them with worth and find the beauty in the ordinary.
