"Not all those that wander are lost." After finally getting settled into my new job as a long term art substitute at Magothy River Middle school, I'm finally getting to upload photos and get photos off my camera. After about 5+ years of day dreaming of going to visit one my dearest friends from high school, Anne, I finally took the plunge with another one of my best friends, Brittany. Brittany just got home in May from travel aboard from Copenhagen so needless to say I felt comfortable both of my travel guides would keep me safe in my first aboard adventure. The trip was an absolute dream. We saw sights, monuments, and ate (and drank) our way through Copenhagen. Some of my favorite things was all the art we saw! Not only did we get to see the exhibition Brokenships: Museum of Broken Relationships, an exhibition I had research while making Everlasting Dualities, but Anne's mom also took us to Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. The culture while has a lot of political differences and conflicts, is so infused with art and culture it was incredible! We got to spend our NYE and experience the cultural traditions like "jumping" (literally off the couch) into the new year, drinking to the Queen's speech (Britt and I would just drink when everyone else would since the whole speech was in Danish), and fireworks from Anne's roof top of her apartment. Many asked if I ate lots of danishes. I did have many "cinnamon snails", aka cinnamon buns but my favorite treat I had is a tie between the chocolate dipped waffle dipped in Tivoli sprinkles or oreo pieces (two days in a row because one day wasn't enough) or Gløgg, a warmed wine cider. There were so many moments I would look around and think to myself "Is this real? Am I really here?" for the fact for so many years I dreamed of visiting this place. We packed our bags two days after Christmas and would return the 4th of January (so we thought). Britt and I ended getting stuck in Iceland for a very interesting night but honestly I would do again. Getting to explore a culture and place of someone I love dearly was the most beautiful things I have yet experienced! Since coming home I've missed the spontaneity of something new everyday. I'm enjoying figuring out what my life will be next but this trip really showed me the importance of great company with people who understand you + taking advantage of adventure. So as the danes say, skal!🍺🇩🇰
